Why Independent Schools?

Quick Facts

Independent schools in BC offer a wide range of faith-based and pedagogical perspectives, including Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Islamic, University Prep (Advance Placement & International Baccalaureate), Indigenous, Montessori, Waldorf, Special Needs, and Distributed Learning programs.

FISA BC has served independent schools throughout BC for over 50 years. To commemorate our 50th Anniversary, a conference was held in 2016. Over 5,000 educators in the province attended. Keynote speakers were Chris Hadfield, Daniel Pink and Charles Fadel. Sessional speakers included Amy Burvall, Christopher Gaze, Kimberly Mitchell, Alan November and Yong Zhao. Additional twenty local educators shared stories highlighting the importance of education in a series of “Ed Talks”.
